Fiddler,  teacher,  and community band leader Sarah Comer has been presenting community dances twice a year with student and graduate bands as an officially sponsored SFS activity. This year is different of course…
Plan to kick up your heels in the safety of your home on Friday night February 26, and join the Raccoon Carnival Band with caller Eric Curl. (Ticket required,  with flexible donation) Donate generously to support the Phinney Center!

The Raccoon Carnival invites you to gather (online of course)  for a night of music, community, and Zoom contra dancing to benefit the Phinney Neighborhood Association! With a dozen-ish members in our community dance band we can’t do a livestream, so we’ve done the next best thing–spent months recording remotely through a collaborative video app, one person at a time. With fiddles, guitars, mandolins, bass and a few surprises, it all adds up to a big sound! The delightful Eric Curl will guide you through the dances, Josh Larios will work the techno wizardry that makes it all possible, and you can download a copy of our tune book before the event if you’d like to play along at home!

A lot of us know and love the Phinney Center as the home of the Emerald City Contra Dance and great SFS concerts, but PNA does a whole lot more. They’ve been serving hot meals, helping seniors with pharmacy and grocery runs, and partnering with the YMCA to provide childcare for essential workers. We all look forward to the day we can go back to singing, dancing and playing music there, but in the meantime, all donations from this event will go to PNA to help them keep up their good work. Hope to see you there!
