The SFS Concert Committee is very excited to partner with the newly created non-profit arts group, Outlanders, for a variety show in the style of old-time radio as part of our Fall Concert Series! It was great to find out more about what the group has already been fostering in the music community, and we wanted to take an opportunity to bring wider attention to their goals and events.

In the words of their mission statement, “Outlanders Progressive Bluegrass Social Club is a 501(c)(3) organization of forward-thinking, fast pickin’ musicians and patrons of acoustic community-driven music in all its formats.

We don’t want to get into the weeds of saying, “Well that ain’t bluegrass” or “Well that ain’t how Earl woulda played it;” just the opposite. Bluegrass, Tradgrass, Old Time, Djanjograss, Irish Session, if it can be played acoustically in a circle it’s probably right up our alley. Our mission is to support the broader genre of acoustic music through jams, education, and shows.”

Outlanders currently hosts bluegrass sessions and more in the greater Seattle area—four weekly sessions in Seattle and one monthly session in Everett. There is a very helpful guideline about session etiquette, as well as full descriptions of each session on their website. They also host beginner-friendly group classes and provide a list of teachers within the Outlanders Social Club who can teach any willing heart the beauty of progressive bluegrass. Though they have been focused on bluegrass so far, they hope to expand to support of other genres. Learn more about Outlanders sessions, classes, and socials at outlandersbluegrass.org.

We look forward to hosting the September 28th SFS concert, and are happy to see the energy that Outlanders is bringing to the Seattle music community!
